LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's basketball team won 73-69 over visiting Fitchburg State University on Monday night at the Leicester Gymnasium.
The Hawks of Becker (13-10) were led by sophomore forward Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) with 21 points, nine rebounds, a career-high seven steals and four assists. McKissick shot 10 of 13 from the floor, good for 77 percent. Freshman guard Cassidy Harrison (Foxborough, Mass. / Foxborough), the reigning New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week, posted a game-high 23 points with four rebounds and three steals. Sophomore guard Katey Anderson (Beachwood, N.J. / Toms River) finished with 11 points on three-of-four shooting from behind the arc while sophomore forward Adrianna Dowdy (East Haven, Conn. / Hill Regional Career) had five points, seven rebounds and a game-high five assists.
The Falcons of Fitchburg State (9-14) were led by freshman guard Emma Thomson (York, Maine/York) with 15 points while freshman guard Kyra Rose (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) had 14 points and seven rebounds. Senior guards Melissa Guglielmello (Paxton, Mass./Quinsigamond CC) and Shabeli Villa (Lawrence, Mass./Greater Lawrence) each added ten points.
With Becker holding a small lead for much of the game, the Hawks appeared to have the game won when they took a nine-point lead off a three-pointer from Harrison with 3:01 left in the fourth quarter. The Falcons would cut it to four on a layup and a three-pointer, but Harrison buried four free throws in the final two minutes to help fold off the rally.
Up next for the Hawks of Becker, the team travels to Daniel Webster University on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. game. Fitchburg State travels to Salem State on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
