Women's Basketball advances to NECC Finals

NEW LONDON, Conn. --- The Becker College women's basketball team prevailed 50-42 at Mitchell College on Thursday evening in the semifinals of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship Tournament at the Yarnall Athletic Center in New London, Connecticut.

The third-seeded Hawks of Becker (20-7) advance to the NECC finals. Becker, the defending NECC champions, has now won 20 games in a season for the first time since the program joined the NCAA 21 years ago.

FOR THE HAWKS
• Junior forward Sarah Ware (Oakham, Mass. / Quabbin Regional) led Becker with 17 points, six rebounds and three steals.
• Senior forward Adrianna Dowdy (East Haven, Conn. / Hill Regional Career) posted 12 points, pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and had a game-high seven steals to lead a stellar defensive effort.
• Junior guard Cassidy Harrison (Foxborough, Mass. / Foxborough) finished with eight points, three steals and two assists.
• Senior forward Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) added six points and five boards.
• Collectively, the Becker defense forced Mitchell into 28 turnovers on the night.

FOR THE MARINERS
• Junior guard Kelsey Hernandez (New Britain, Conn. / New Britain) led Mitchell with 18 points and four steals.
• Freshman forward Amina Wiley (New Rochelle, N.Y. / New Rochelle) totaled eight points, nine rebounds and three steals.

TURNING POINT
• Hotly contested up until the closing minutes, Becker was clinging to a 37-36 lead with 3:13 to go in the game. A 7-0 run capped off with a three-point play by Dowdy with 1:22 remaining proved to be exactly what the Hawks would need to take control, finally putting the game away.

UP NEXT
The Hawks are back on the court on Saturday when they travel to New England College for the Championship Tournament Final. The top-seeded Pilgrims of NEC advanced to the finals earlier with a 66-64 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in the other semifinal game.
