Marlboro, Mass. – Freshman forward Claudia Gee (Randolph, VT) had a goal and an assists as the Becker College women's ice hockey team fell to SUNY Potsdam 3-2 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the New England Sports Center. The Hawks fall to 1-10 overall, while SUNY moves to 5-7-2 for the season.
After a scoreless first period, the Hawks wasted little time solving the SUNY net minder. Freshman forward Gina Beth Manganiello (Peabody, MA) buried a loose puck in the crease after an initial shot from Gee had broken through the blocker of SUNY goaltender Abby Tardelli just 46 seconds into the frame.
Gee made it 2-0 later in the stanza when the speedy forward collected a puck just under the right side face-off circle, which had caromed off a shot from the point, and deposited a wrist shot into the back of the net.
However, the Bears would score three unanswered goals in the third period for the win. Junior Jordan Ott started off the period with a pair of top shelf tallies less than two minutes apart to tie the game at 2-2. SUNY's Sally Mooney would score the game winner with a power-play goal with 6:50 remaining in regulation.
Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, MO) backboned the Hawks making 39 saves in the loss, while Tardelli made 19 saves to pick up the win.
Both teams are now off for the winter break. The Hawks are back in action on Friday January 8, 2016 when they travel to the University of New England for a 4 p.m. tilt.
