Vikings Complete Sweep of Women's Ice Hockey

SALEM, Mass. –  Salem State scored twice in the second period and held on for a 3-1 victory over Becker College at Rockett Arena to complete the weekend series sweep. The Vikings improve to 5-17 and 4-8 in the Colonial Hockey Conference while the Ice Hawks slide to 3-19, and 3-9 in league play.

After a scoreless first, Jacqueline Sindoris (Charlestown, Mass.) put the Vikings on the board when she punched in a rebound past Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo.) for a 1-0 lead. Becker responded minutes later when on the power play, Rachel Pitcher (Grand Isle, Vt.) took a shot from the point that deflected of the stick of Claudia Gee (Randolgh, Vt.) to tie the game. However, in the final minute Kristin McKenzie (Arlington, Mass.) gave Salem State the lead back with her tenth goal of the year as the Vikings took a 2-1 advantage into the third.

A closely fought final period saw neither team find the back of the net in the first nineteen minutes of play. The Ice Hawks had a chance on a two-man advantage, but they were unable to convert. After pulling Rigsby, McKenzie iced the game with an empty-netter to make the final 3-1.

Jenn Toussaint (Reading, Mass.) stopped 22 shots to earn the victory while Rigsby made 34 saves in the loss.

Both teams resume action on Friday, February 19th as Salem State will host Endicott for "Senior Night" at 7:00 p.m. while Becker College travels to Daniel Webster an 8:00 p.m. start.
