MARLBORO, Mass. --- The Becker College women's ice hockey team defeated visiting Post University, 3-1, on Friday night at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro. The Ice Hawks of Becker improve to 5-9-1 while the Eagles of Post fall to 0-14.
After a scoreless opening period, Becker freshman defenseman Samantha Talmadge (Hamden, Conn. / Hamden High School) got the Ice Hawks on the board 2:53 into the second period with her second goal of the year. The Eagles would score the equalizer less than a minute later, courtesy of Post freshman forward Sierra Alarid (Cheyenne, Wyo. / Team Wyoming). At 10:42 in the second, Talmadge capitalized on a power play for her second goal of the game, assisted by sophomore defenseman Hannah Elmer (Chicopee, Mass. / Connecticut Polar Bears) as the Ice Hawks retook the lead, up 2-1 going into the third period.
In the final stanza, Becker sophomore forward Claudia Gee (Randolph, Vt. / Vermont Shamrocks) added an insurance goal at 4:45, and the 3-1 advantage would fold up for the final score.
Becker sophomore goaltender Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo. / Dallas Stars Elite) recorded 12 stops between the pipes for the Ice Hawks to earn the win. Post freshman goalie Mikaella Doran (Eden Mills, Vt. / Vermont Shamrocks) ended the night with 40 saves. Becker outshot Post, 43-13.
The Ice Hawks of Becker are back on the ice on Tuesday when they host New England College. The puck drops at 8:20 p.m. The Eagles of Post travel to Johnson & Wales University on Saturday for a 6:55 p.m. game.
