Women's Ice Hockey rallies to upend Dutchmen, 3-2

MARLBORO, Mass. --- The Becker College women's ice hockey team defeated visiting Lebanon Valley College on Saturday night at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, winning by a score of 3-2.

 

The Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley (2-13) got on the board first in the first period when they capitalized on a downed Becker defender to score on a breakaway, as freshman forward MacKenzie Bokina (Southbury, Conn. / Exton Bulls Elite) finished off an assist from junior forward Nikki Lloyd (Harrisburg, Pa. / Quakers U19) at 13:33 into the game.

 

Sophomore forward Bailey Coons (Casper, Wyo. / Team Wyoming) scored the equalizer for the Ice Hawks of Becker (6-9-2) at 16:18 into the second period, finishing off a rebound with assists to sophomore forward Claudia Gee (Randolph, Vt. / Vermont Shamrocks) and freshman defenseman Megan Silta (Kenai, Alaska / Boston Bandits). The score was knotted at 1-1 heading into the third period.

 

Lebanon Valley freshman forward Liz D'Ginto (Downingtown, Pa. / Quakers U19/Exton Bulls Elite) put the Dutchmen up 2-1 at 6:12 into the final period. Three minutes later, Coons tied it up again on an unassisted score for the Ice Hawks.

 

With the game appeared headed into overtime, Gee scored the game-winner with 1:33 remaining, completing the rally and giving Becker the victory.

 

Becker sophomore goaltender Julia Johnson (Littleton, Colo. / Walpole Express) picked up the win, recording 12 saves. Lebanon Valley freshman goalie Jillian Moffatt (Toronto, Ontario / Northern Cyclones NEWJHL) had 43 saves. The Ice Hawks outshot the Dutchmen, 46-14.

 

The Ice Hawks of Becker and the Dutchmen on Lebanon Valley will play in a rematch on Sunday at Saint Mark's School in Southborough at 12:40 p.m.
