LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's ice hockey team won 2-1 against visiting Lebanon Valley College on Sunday afternoon at Saint Mark's School in Southborough. With the victory, the Ice Hawks of Becker improve their record to 7-9-2 while the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley drop to 2-14.
Becker freshman forward Kate Hamilton (Walpole, Mass. / Massachusetts Spitfires) got the scoring started 2:20 into the second period, assisted by freshman forward Christie Gray (Oxford, Ohio / Culver Girls Academy) and sophomore defenseman Emily Dennee (Chandler, Ariz. / Arizona Lady Coyotes) as the Ice Hawks went up 1-0.
Then with 9:10 left in the game, Becker sophomore forward Bailey Coons (Casper, Wyo. / Team Wyoming) scored of an assist from sophomore forwards Rachel Pitcher (Grand Isle, Vt. / Vermont Shamrocks) and Claudia Gee (Randolph, Vt. / Vermont Shamrocks). It was Coons' third goal in two games.
The Dutchmen got one back with 19 seconds remaining from freshman forward Liz D'Ginto (Downingtown, Pa. / Quakers U19/Exton Bulls Elite).
Becker sophomore goaltender Julia Johnson (Littleton, Colo. / Walpole Express), playing between the pipes for the second time in less than 18 hours, recorded 22 saves to get the win. Lebanon Valley freshman goalie Jillian Moffatt (Toronto, Ontario / Northern Cyclones NEWJHL) answered with 40 saves in net. Becker outshot Lebanon Valley 42-23.
The Ice Hawks of Becker are back on the ice on Friday when they host Morrisville State at 7:40 p.m. in a Colonial Hockey Conference game. The Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley travel to Sacred Heart University on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
