Kangaroos Hop Past Women's Hockey

CANTON, N.Y.-  Becker College fell to SUNY Canton 4-2 in Colonial Hockey Conference women's hockey action Saturday evening. The win lifts the Kangaroos record to 9-10-1 (3-4-0 CHC) while the Ice Hawks fall to 7-12-2 (1-8-0 CHC).

Canton jumped ahead early, with two goals in the first period. Whitney Bernier put Canton on the board 10:12 into the period on assists from Hannah Brady and Grace Page. With 2:55 remaining in the stanza, Jessica Pele found the back of the net on a pass from Tessa Dobson.

The Kangaroos would extend their lead to 3-0 on a Tess Adams goal, 11:14 into the second period.

Becker freshman Brianna Luciani (Bellingham, Mass.) put the Ice Hawks on the board with a power-play goal, 15:54 into the second, cutting the Canton lead to 3-1.

Becker made things interesting 2:23 into the third when Christie Gray scored her second maker of the season to bring the Ice Hawks within a goal.

Canton secured the victory with 9:21 remaining on a Noelle Niemiec power-play goal, making the final score 4-2.

Becker goalies Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo.) and Julia Johnson (Littleton, Colo.) combined for 38 saves in the loss.

The two teams will finish their season series tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
