MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Becker College women's hockey team fell to Morrisville State 3-0 in Colonial Hockey Conference action Friday evening.
The Mustangs came out firing on all cylinders on Friday night, controlling the puck for the majority of the night. Morrisville outshot Becker 25-3 alone in the first period, picking up the first goal of the game at the 17:33 mark. Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, N.Y.) got the sequence started with a shot from the right circle. Danielle Bunting(Thornville, Ohio) and Bailey Dillabough (Massena, N.Y.) crashed the net, with Dillabough corralling the puck before slipping it to Bunting for the goal; her first of the season.
Morrisville continued to dominate in the second period. Kylie Cameron (Burlington, Ont.) notched her fourth of the season to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage just under eight minutes into the period, with a backhand shot into the left corner. Sierra Voeller (Penticton, B.C.) and Kaitlyn Schlake (Nampa, Idaho) picked up assists on the play.
Just under eight minutes later in the second, the Mustangs got on the board again as the line of Bunting, Dillabough, and Kirk connected again. Dillabough was the beneficiary this time around. After Bunting shot a pass behind the boards, Kirk picked it up and slipped a wrap-around pass across the crease to Dillabough who converted the backhanded shot.
Despite another lop-sided period in shots, the Mustangs were unable to score in the third. However, the three goals were all that were needed as Becker was unable to find the back of the net.
Karoline Arvik (Trondheim, Norway) picked up the victory, recording 13 saves. Becker goalie Julia Johnson (Littleton, Colo.) made 49 stops in the loss.
This CHC series will wrap up tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the IcePlex on the campus of Morrisville State.
