Women’s Ice Hockey Suffers Senior Day Loss to Morrisville State

WORCESTER, Mass.  – The Becker women's ice hockey suffered a 3-0 senior day loss to the visiting Mustangs of Morrisville State in Saturday afternoon Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action at the Worcester Ice Center.

SENIOR SECTION

Prior to the start of the game, the inaugural Becker women's ice hockey senior class was recognized for their commitment, pride and dedication to the program.  The following were honored: #1 Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo.), #2 Michaela Martin (Sheldon, Vt.), #7 Elysabeth Jefferies (Lisbon Falls, Maine),  #8 Brittany Aiello (Franklin Park, Ill.), #9 Rachel Pitcher (Grand Isle, Vt.), Bailey Coons (Casper, Wyo.), #13 Sarah McSweeney (Chandler, Ariz.), #14 Catherine McShera (Marston Mills, Mass.), #17 Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine), #21 Claudia Gee (Randolph, Vt.), #25 Anastasia Thompson (Riverside, Calif.) and #35 Julia Johnson (Littleton, Colo.).

 

SCORING SUMMARY

  • Much like last night's play, the Mustangs came out to a quick 3-0 start in the first period of play, scoring three goals in a three minute span, starting in the sixth minute.  They held off the Hawks and outshot Becker 23-5 in the first frame.
  • The first goal of the game was scored by Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ont.) on a putback from Ciara Lark's (Mildmay, Ont.) shot on net.
  • The other two were scored by Jessica Ujcik (Munich, Germany) and Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, N.Y.).  Mackenzie Lombardi (Hamilton, Ont.), Maria Dewilde (Caistorville, Ont.) and Alexziz Giannamore (Pittsburgh, Pa.) were awarded the assists on the second two shots.
  • The second and third periods were scoreless.  The Mustangs outshot the hosts 14-9 in the second, and 13-6 in the final period.

 

BETWEEN THE PIPES

  • In total, the Mustangs outshot the Hawks, 50-20.
  • Arvik earned the shutout, turning away all 20 Hawk shots on net. 
  • Despite the loss, Johnson played a strong 60 minutes in net, stopping 47-of-50 shots faced.

 

UP NEXT

The Hawks hit the road next week, traveling to SUNY Canton on Friday-Saturday (Feb. 15-16) for a two-game series.  Morrisville State will return home and host Endicott on the same dates.
