Hazen Earns NEWLA All Conference Second Team Honors

The New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance has announced its post-season honors. In a vote by the conference coaches, Bridgewater senior midfielder Shannon Manning was named NEWLA Offensive Player of the Year. Manning led the league with 38 assists in just seven conference contests, double what any other conference player contributed. The senior also scored 24 times and was among the league leaders in ground balls (14), draw controls (22) and caused turnovers (8) leading the Bears to a 6-1 mark in conference play.

For the second consecutive season, Bridgewater State defender Erin Quimby was honored as the NEWLA Defensive Player of the Year. During conference play, the junior picked up 21 ground balls and caused eight turnovers while scoring four times and assisting on six others from her defensive position for the Bears.  Bridgewater State’s Meghan Griffin was named NEWLA Goalkeeper of the Year. The senior posted a 9.36 goals against average during conference play making 56 saves with a .538 save percentage. Quimby and Griffin led a Bears defense allowed a conference leading 9.00 goals per game.

Westfield State first year midfielder Ariana Colella was chosen as the NEWLA Rookie of the Year. Colella scored 13 goals with five assists during conference play while gathering eight ground balls, winning 12 draw controls and causing six turnovers.

Westfield State Rachel Dionne was selected the NEWLA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The junior defender was a first team all-conference selection. In addition, Dionne has been the women's lacrosse representative to the Westfield athletic department Champs Life Skills organization the past two years and volunteers her time to youth lacrosse in the western Mass. area.

Westfield State’s Greg Styles was honored as the NEWLA Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive season. Westfield State also was honored with the Team Sportsmanship Award. NEWLA all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
