Lijana Scores 100th In Hawks Victory
Leicester, Mass.- Sophomore Nicole Lijana (Moorsetown, NJ.) scored Becker’s first three goals to lift the Hawks past Pine Manor 17-3 in women’s lacrosse action. The Gators answered back quickly with a goal with 25:33 remaining in the first half on a tally from Elaine Rodriguez (Bronx, NY.). Karoll Barretto (East Boston, Mass.) then scored with 20:09 to secure a promising lead for the Hawks. Then a trio of Hawks took over with a series of goals by Brooke Cote (Fitchburg, Mass.), Morgan Hazen (Woodstock, VT.), and Amanda Corso (West Haven, Conn.), giving the hawks a 7-1 lead. With 8:54 left in the first half Nicole Lijana scored her 100th career goal as Lady Hawk and her fourth goal of the day. After senior Renee Landry (Acton, ME.) made the score 9-1, Morgan Hazen became the second Lady Hawk to have a hat trick on the day. Nicole Lijana and Vanessa Laureano (Dracut, Mass.) added the last two goals of the first half, making the score 13-1.
In the second half Jennifer Ouellette (Merrimack, NH.) started the Hawks off strong as she scored the first goal of the second half. Morgan Hazen followed with her fourth goal with a strong assist by Brooke Cote . Elaine Rodriguez scored her second and team second goal with 7:37 remaining in the second half. Felicia Zalik (Oxford, Conn.) scored her first goal of the evening with a submarine style goal to top off the game for the Lady Hawks. Myrell Redmond (Baltimore, MD.) did all she could to keep the Gators alive adding the third goal of the night.
Lindsay Peluso (Dudley, Mass.) made seven saves as the Hawks improved to 4-8 on the season. Colleen Tencza (South Meriden, Conn.) made 11 saves in a losing effort. With the loss the Gators fell to 2-10 on the year.
