LEICESTER, Mass. – Junior midfielder Johanna Douglas (Essex, Conn.) scored the game winning goal with seven seconds remaining to push Green Mountain College past Becker College by a final score of 12-11 in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Eagles of Green Mountain are now 2-3 on their season while the Hawks of Becker fall to 1-6.
Becker was up 7-3 early in the second half before Green Mountain exploded, scoring seven of the game's next eight goals to take the lead. The Hawks were down by two with less than two minutes remaining in the game when Becker junior attacker Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) scored twice to tie it up, one goal coming at 1:36 and the tying score coming with 25 seconds left. But Douglas' goal were too much for even Mossey's heroics.
Douglas finished the game with five goals and two assists. Junior attacker Corinne Colpitts (Groveland, Mass.) also contributed five goals with an assist for the Eagles while senior midfielder Bryanna Astor (Milltown, N.J.) contributed two goals and an assist.
Mossey had five goals for the Hawks, with four coming in the second period. Freshman attacker Kailee Ruyack (Beacon, N.Y.) also scored five times and junior midfielder Christina Boucher (Pawcatuck, Conn.) had a goal and an assist.
Green Mountain junior goalie Virginia Anderson (Silver Spring, Md.) picked up the win with five saves, while Becker freshman goalie Shelby Wicks (Shaftsbury, Vt.) tallied 11 saves.
Becker is back on the field on Tuesday when they travel to Worcester State for a 7:00 p.m. game. Green Mountain hosts New England College on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
