Mossey Lifts Women's Lacrosse In Win Over Mass. Maritime

LEICESTER, Mass. – Junior attacker Ashley Mossey (Basllston Lake, N.Y.) scored six goals as host Becker College defeated visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy 12-6 in Women's Lacrosse action on Thursday night at Alumni Field. The Hawks of Becker are now 2-7 while the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime drop to 2-5.

In addition to Mossey's outstanding performance, junior midfielder Christina Boucher (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and junior attacker Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) each had three goals for the Hawks, with Dilkes collecting an assist.

For Massachusetts Maritime, freshman attacker Janine Prokscha (Washington, Conn./Gunnery Prep) finished with three goals, while freshman attacker Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) added two and freshman attacker Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Penn.) also scored.

The Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead, with goals from Mossey, Boucher and Dilkes with Boucher scoring her second to put Becker up 4-0. The Buccaneers finally cracked the scoring column with 14:23 remaining in the opening period as Smith found the back of the net. Four minutes later, Boyle cut the lead to two when she cut to the goal for a solo strike. Mossey added a goal for the Hawks with 4:44 left in the first half on a free position shot, and Becker led 5-2 at the break.

In the second half, Mossey took control. The junior scored her third goal just 41 seconds into the period to put Becker back up by four. Maritime answered less than a minute later with a goal by Smith, but Mossey scored her fourth on a free position with 26:30 remaining and her fifth with the clock at 25:05. Dilkes scored her second goal of the night at 21:23, and Boucher made a brilliant play with 17:04 left, stealing the ball away deep in Maritime territory and putting it through herself to give her a hat trick for the night and giving Becker the 10-4 lead, effectively putting the game out of reach.

Becker freshman goalie Shelby Wicks (Shaftsbury, Vt.) had four saves in picking up the win, while Massachusetts Maritime netminder Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) tallied 13 stops on the night. Becker outshot Massachusetts Maritime, 34-14.
