LEICESTER, Mass.- Becker College defeated Framingham State 16-7 in non-conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win lifts the Hawks record to 1-0, while the Rams fall to 0-1.
Becker opened the game with six unanswered goals, two coming from sophomore Kailee Ruyack (Beacon, N.Y.). Framingham State got on the board with 18:28 remaining in the first half when freshman Lindsay Nixon (Woburn, Mass.) used a free position shot to score her first collegiate goal.
The Hawks widened their lead to 8-1 when Tatum Fahs (Foster, R.I.) netted back to back goals. Senior Christina Boucher (Pawcatuck, Conn.) gave Becker a 9-1 advantage when she scored on a free position shot. The Rams went into halftime with the momentum when Nicole L'Heureux (Dracut, Mass.) and Lidsay Nixon scored to make the score 9-3 at the break.
Kailee Ruyack opened the second half with her third goal of the game to earn a hat-trick. Framingham freshman Kristen Hoggins (Harvard, Mass.) answered with her first collegiate goal, making the score 10-4. After the two teams exchanged goals, the Hawks tallied four unanswered goals to make the score 15-5.
Nicole L'Heureux ended the Rams scoring drought with her second goal of the game. Becker went in front 16-6 when Rachel Welling (Charlestown, N.H.) found Christina Boucher for her fourth goal of the game. With just under a minute remaining in regulation, Framingham freshman Katelyn Belcher (Plymouth, Mass.) took a pass from Nicole L'Heureux and scored her first collegiate goal, making the final score 16-7.
Becker goalie Karena Prescott (New Bedford, Mass.) earned the victory after turning away six shots, while Alysha Cericola made 16 saves in a losing effort.
Becker returns to action on Monday, March 10 when they travel to South Carolina to play Transylvania at 10:00 a.m. Framingham State will travel to Nichols College on Wednesday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m.
