Women's Lacrosse falls at Mount Ida

NEWTON, Mass. – Earning their third clean sheet of the year and their second in as many games, Mount Ida College beat Becker College 19-0 on a cold Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field as the teams battled in non-conference women's lacrosse action.

 

The Mustangs continue one of their best starts to a season in program history, improving to 5-1 overall while handing Becker their fourth loss in five games this year.

 

Mount Ida led 11-0 at halftime and overall enjoyed a 41-2 advantage in shots, a 38-19 edge in ground balls, and a 16-4 lead in draw controls.

 

Emily McConnell (Dracut, Mass.) had eight points on five assists and a hat trick to lead the team, while Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) and Hayley Napier (Fairhaven, Mass.) scored four times apiece, with Kelly adding three assists for a seven-point day.

 

Napier led all players with six ground balls, and Kelly had five ground balls, three draw controls, and six caused turnovers.

 

Five different Mustangs scored in the opening thirteen minutes to start the scoring, with McConnell assisting on the first two goals and then scoring her first goal to make it 5-0.

 

Brooke Scahill (Ledyard, Conn.) added her second goal of the game at 12:42, in a game in which she had nine draw controls and four caused turnovers to go with two goals and three assists.

 

Kelly and McConnell scored twice each in the second half and Anabelle Dentino (Maynard, Mass.) scored at the end of each of the halves as well. Jenessa Corbett (Westbrook, Maine) earned her first collegiate assist and also had three caused turnovers.

 

Sophomore Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine) made 14 saves for the visitors, while Becker's only shots came from Kayla Richard (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Cassandra Nelson (Exeter, N.H.), who had three draw controls.

 

Mount Ida's goalkeepers were not tested with a shot on net, as Jessica Henry (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Eleanor Garvey (Elkridge, Md.) combined to play a half each and earn the shutout.

 

Mount Ida begins Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday when they host Saint Joseph (CT) at 1:00 PM at Alumni Field.

 

Becker plays host to Rhode Island College at the same time.
