McKissick's game-winner leads Women's Soccer over Falcons

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team fell to Becker College 1-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at Elliot Field.

In the 11th minute of the opening frame, Becker junior Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass.) redirected a corner kick off the foot of senior Maria Colon (Wharton, NJ), who had placed the pass deep to the far post.

The Falcons best chance of the night came with 16 minutes remaining in the match, when they were awarded a direct kick from 25 yards out. Sophomore Nicole Kopacz (Tewksbury, Mass.) laced the shot right inside the far post, with Hawks netminder Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass.) making the stop.

A late corner kick from Green and Gold's Haleigh Medlin (Baldwinville, Mass.) was thwarted by Martel to preserve the win

This is the 14th meeting between two schools. Falcons are 9-5-0 when taking on the Hawks.

Green and Gold have won last four contest against Becker with last two games being decided by one goal each.

Freshman keeper Sarah Hemmings was Fitchburg State's second consecutive goaltender to earn a shutout in collegiate debut last week. She had 2 saves in the loss.

Martel posted 5 saves for her second win and shutout of the season. She has not allowed a goal all season.
