LEICESTER, Mass. – With the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament on the horizon, the Becker College women's tennis knows what it will take to win league title after its regular season finale. The Hawks dropped a 9-0 decision to regular season champion Regis College on Saturday.
Becker ended the regular season 8-8 overall and 7-3 in the NECC. The Pride went undefeated in NECC action at 10-0 with an 11-1 overall mark.
Regis got out to a quick start, winning all three singles matches. At number one, Regis' Jessica Lord and Erica Murphy topped Jessica's sister Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, Mass.), 8-2. At number two, Livia Smith (Worcester, Mass.) and Dana Mahan (Manville, R.I.) dropped an 8-3 decision to Emily Rice and Katasha Jarvis. The same 8-3 score came at number three doubles where Jewel Medeiros and Sara Kanarkiewicz beat Kerry Saltvick (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Jessica Leger (Auburn, Mass.).
The singles matches went very similar for the Pride. The closest match was at number two where Lord beat Andrade, 7-5, 6-3. At number six, Emily Wodell (Feeding Hills, Mass.) dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Amy DiPace. Murphy beat Lord, 6-1, 6-1 at number one.
Smith lost 6-0, 6-1 to Rice at number three and Mahan was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Medeiros. Leger also lost by the same 6-1, 6-0 score to Jarvis.
The Hawks will take on either Bay Path or Lesley in the semifinals of the conference tournament. Becker will host the match on Saturday, October 17.
