NEWTON, Mass. --- The Becker College women's tennis team opened their 2017 season with a 7-2 loss at Mount Ida College on Saturday.
The Mustangs led 2-1 after doubles play, thanks to an 8-4 victory at the top spot by Ginger Boodakian (Burlington, Mass.) and Molly O'Donnell (Danvers, Mass.) and a forfeit at number three.
Boodakian, O'Donnell and Cierra Peaslee (Killingly, Conn.) then took down the top three spots in singles play to clinch the win for the Mustangs.
Boodakian earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, Mass.), while O'Donnell got past Victoria Puczydlowsk (Dudley, Mass.) 6-4, 5-7, 10-5, winning in a super tiebreak.
Fiona Gilley (Worcester, Mass.), won twice for the Hawks, beating Yuliana Chairez (Waltham, Mass.) 6-2, 3-3 (7-3) in singles and pairing with Dana Mahan (Manville, R.I.) to beat Chairez and Peaslee 8-5 at #2 doubles.
Peaslee got her revenge with a 6-1, 6-1 singles win over Mahan, while Amanda Garner (Coventry, R.I.) also had no difficulty getting a win at $5 singles, beating Shannon Hazelton (Rockland, Mass.) 6-0, 6-2.
Becker falls to 0-1 in their first action of the season and will host Worcester State on Monday at 3:30 PM.
Mount Ida will try to keep their momentum going on Septmeber 16th when they open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at Albertus Magnus at 1 PM.
