UMass Dartmouth serves past Women's Tennis

SOMERSET, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team defeated Becker College, 9-0, as every player on the roster contributed to take home the non-conference victory on Thursday night at Somerset Berkley Regional High School.

How It Happened
In the doubles portion, the Corsairs got out to the early advantage as the pairings of Mollie McCaffrey (Taunton, Mass.) and Kerry Magoon (Marshfield, Mass.) and Samantha Rollings (Tiverton, R.I.) and Jillian Reichert (Marion, Mass.) came out with respective 8-0 shutout victories. Freshman Jordan Martin (Taunton, Mass.) and sophomore Natasha Shiku (North Grafton, Mass.) closed out doubles with an 8-1 decision, picking up their first win of the season together in the process.
UMass Dartmouth continued its recent trend in singles with no matches going longer than two games. Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) finished first, topping her opponent by a 6-1, 6-0 score. The Corsairs rattled off three consecutive 6-0, 6-0 scores as Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass.), Melanie Wong (Somerset, Mass.), and Rachel Aftandillian (Watertown, Mass.) earned straight-set decisions.
Senior Molina Oung (Bourne, Mass.) kept her singles record flawless, defeating her opponent by the 6-1, 6-0 set score before Michelle Aftandillian (Watertown, Mass.) closed the book on the match, rising victoriously in a 6-2, 6-0 score.

Inside the Numbers:
• Thursday marks the first time in the tenure of head coach Doug Chapman that all players on the roster made an appearance in a single match.
• Tonight's matched marked the season debut of Shiku, a doubles contributor last season, and the collegiate debut for Martin.
• Oung's single's record has improves to 11-0 on the year, consisting of nine victories at No. 6 and one apiece at No. 5 and No. 3.
