Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Regis
Weston, Mass.-Regis College (4-7, 0-0 TCCC) started off the
night strong opening with a 25-13 first game win. Led offensively
by Lauren Ross (Dracut, Mass.) and Domingas Gomes (Dorchester,
Mass.), the Pride would defeat Becker College 3-0 (25-13, 25-14,
25-10) Friday.
Becker would come out strong in game two being led by freshman
Julie Trcka (Shelton, Conn.) The two teams would exchange points
until Becker took a two-point lead midway through the game. Regis
would separate itself going on to win game two 25-14.
Meghan McCarty was huge for Regis in game two, delivering repeated
kills to the floor of the Becker defense. Trcka attempted to
deliver offensively for her team, but the Hawks struggled to return
the Regis attack.
Game three opened with the matches longest volley of the night,
with both teams possessing the ball at least two times before Ross
would strike just inside the backline for the Regis point. Nicole
Morse (Alton, NH) offered up a huge block attempt to slow the Pride
offense, but Gomes was able to return the ball for the point.
Regis continued its dominance going on a 12-0 run before Gomes
would serve into the net giving Becker its first point of match
three. Kelsea Laubenstein (Randolph, Mass.) returned with a service
ace for the Hawks second point.
Laubenstein would make a huge dig to save a certain Regis point;
Joanna Slomiak (Brockton, Mass.) would set Trcka for the kill.
Theresa Boulier (Eddington, Maine) offered a huge block giving
Becker the point and possession of the ball.
Up 21-6, Regis College continued to skillfully attack the Hawk
defense. A miscommunication on the Regis back line led Trcka to
again add points to the board for Becker. Mandy Hoyt (Madison, NH)
would chime in to score on a tip for the Pride. Up 23-10, Melissa
Frederique (Manchester, NH) and Gomes would combine to end the
match 25-10.
Regis College travels to play The Commonwealth Coast Conference
opponent the University of New England Saturday. Becker College
will head to Daniel Webster Sept. 22.
