Women's Volleyball falls short to Daniel Webster on Senior Night

PAXTON, Mass. --- The Becker College women's volleyball team lost in three sets to visiting Daniel Webster College on Friday night in their regular season finale played at the Fuller Center at Anna Maria College in Paxton. Set scores were 25-14, 25-12, 25-19 in favor of Daniel Webster.


The Hawks of Becker (10-15 / 3-5 NECC) saw their three match winning streak come to an end. They were led by senior middle blocker Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I. / Coventry) with seven kills and two block assists. Senior outsider hitter Cheyenne Melanson (Sandown, N.H. / Timberlane) contribute five kills and six digs while defensive specialist senior Arianne Chipman (Hingham, Mass. / Hingham) had one dig. Junior setter Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) finished with 14 sets assists and five digs, while sophomore middle blocker Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, N.J. / Bronx) added three kills and two block assists. Sophomore libero Brittney Bullis (Stafford, Va. / Mountain View) added ten digs.


The Eagles of Daniel Webster (21-7 / 7-1 NECC) were led by junior middle blocker Hannah Koehler (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford) with a match-high 16 kills. Junior outside hitter Rebecca Hoffman (Andover, Mass. / Andover) contributed eight kills and ten digs, while junior setter Nicole Beard (Shelton, Conn.    / Shelton) set up the offense with 33 set assists.


Prior to the game, the Becker College athletics department and the women's volleyball program recognized their three outstanding seniors on this year's team. Marissa Turner, Arianne Chipman and Cheyenne Melanson have each contributed their leadership, talent and dedication not only to the women's volleyball program, but to the Becker community as a whole. Although their playing careers may be coming to an end, they will forever be part of the Hawks' family.


It was the regular season finale for both teams. The Hawks of Becker and the Eagles of Daniel Webster now await the announcement of the NECC playoff seedings to learn who they will play in their next contest. The first round of the tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, November 1st.
