BROOKLINE, Mass. --- The Becker College women's volleyball saw their 2016 season come to a conclusion on Tuesday night as they lost in three sets at Newbury College in the opening round of the NECC playoffs. Set scores were 25-14, 25-18, 25-13 in favor of the hosts. The Hawks of Becker conclude their season with a 10-16 overall record, while the Nighthawks of Newbury advance in the conference tournament with a record of 12-8.
Becker was paced by sophomore middle blocker Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, N.J. / Bronx) with seven kills and a .316 hitting percentage. Senior outsider hitter Cheyenne Melanson (Sandown, N.H. / Timberlane) had five kills and five digs. Junior setter Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) finished with 16 set assists. Sophomore libero Brittney Bullis (Stafford, Va. / Mountain View) had nine digs and two service aces. Freshman outside hitter Sofia Cullina (Deep River, Conn. / Valley Regional) led the defense with ten digs.
The Hawks had their best chance in the second set when they took a 12-8 lead off the serve of Dupree. But the Nighthawks would rally with a 9-1 run, and would never trail again.
