Mustangs outrace Women's Volleyball in three sets

Sophomore outside hitter Micaela Rice (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) paced the Hawks of Becker (0-3) with eight kills and eight digs.

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's volleyball team lost in three sets to visiting Mount Ida College on Tuesday night at the Leicester Gymnasium, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17.

 

The Mustangs of Mount Ida (4-1) were led by senior outside hitter Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass. / Agawam) with 12 kills, four service aces and five digs. Sophomore middle hitter Hanna Simpkins (Walpole, N.H. / Fall Mountain Regional) posted six kills, five aces and seven digs, while sophomore setter Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn. / East Lyme) set up the offense with 30 set assists.

 

Sophomore outside hitter Micaela Rice (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) paced the Hawks of Becker (0-3) with eight kills and eight digs. Junior defensive specialist Courtney Cotnoir (Douglas, Mass. / Douglas) finished with a match-high 16 digs while sophomore outside hitter Sofia Cullina (Deep River, Conn. / Valley Regional) had a team-high three aces and six digs.

 

The key moment of the match came in the second set with Becker trailing 21-9. The Hawks battled back, using a 12-3 run to pull to within three. But Reidy put down the set-winning kill to give the Mustangs a 2-0 set edge.

 

Becker will look to bounce back on Thursday when they travel to Fitchburg State for a 7:00 p.m. match. Mount Ida faces WPI and Wentworth at the Wentworth Tri-Match on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
