Baseball Falls to Mountaineers

Leicester, Mass. ---The Becker College baseball team took on Southern Vermont again on Sunday afternoon in NECC action at Rochdale Park. The Hawks were unable to complete the sweep, falling to the Mountaineers 21-6.

 Southern Vermont (7-18, 5-9 NECC) was able to bounce back from giving up two games to Becker the day before. The Mountaineers were led by catcher Dan Mason (Bloomingdale, N.J.) who was 2-for-3 with five RBI's and two runs scored. Center fielder Zack Stacey (Saratoga, N.Y.) put together a four RBI day going 1-for-4. Shortstop John Aroncio (Oradell, N.J.) along with first basemen Cody Sullivan (Brunswick, N.J.) both gathered two hits with three RBI's. Finally, for the Mountaineers second basemen Ryan Cullam (Guilderland, N.Y.) went 2-for-4, hitting in two and scoring three times.

 It was a quiet day for the Hawks (9-21, 6-8 NECC) as they were fighting until the sixth inning to find their first base hit, coming off the bat of the shortstop Ben Mazzone (Bristol, Conn.), who would later score come in to score Becker's first run on a Tanyon Ventres (Holden, Mass.) double to center field plating two. The very next batter Chris Testa (Providence, R.I.) continued the extra base hit trend with a triple plating one more run in the sixth. In the seventh the Hawks were able to score two more on a Mazzone ground out and a Josiah Shepherd (Providence, R.I.) double down the left field line. The final run for Becker came in the eighth on a Noah Rivera moon shot (New Bedford, Mass) double to deep center field scoring Testa who had reached on an error ending the Hawks rally.

 For the Mountaineers Dylan Ramirez (Orlando, Fla.) got the win going six innings with only three hits allowed and three earned runs, he is now 2-2 on the season. Rees LeSoine (Florence, Mont.) was able to complete the three inning save getting his second save of the season.

Becker College pitcher Michael Iacovelli (Northbridge, Mass.) took the loss pitching five and a third, giving up seven hits and seven earned runs. Iacovelli even with the loss remains on top of the rotation with a 3-2 record and a 4.65 ERA.

 Southern Vermont will play again Tuesday at home against Skidmore at 4:00 PM. Becker will be back in action Monday at Worcester State, with a start time of 4:00 PM.
