Dean College took the rubber match of their New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) series with visiting Becker College by scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to end their 2018 season on a high note with a 12-9 victory.

The Bulldogs, playing their first season as a member of the NECC, wrap up their inaugural campaign with a 12-26-1 overall record, including a 7-10 conference mark.

Dean took an early 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a two-run single from Evan Menzinger (Centereach, N.Y.).

Becker answered back by getting four runs in the second – three of which came on a bases clearing triple from Will Negron.

Negron was at it again in the fourth, legging out another triple, this time sending two runners home and he then scampered home on a wild pitch.

Down 8-4, Dean got one run back in the fifth on a double steal that saw Jeff Sharnick (Stratford, Conn.) take home and then two runs came across in the sixth on a Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) base hit and a Will Kulcher (Crown Point, Ind.) triple.

The Bulldogs then pulled away in the game-changing seventh beginning with a Travis Dinsdale (Worcester, Mass.) two-run single. More runs came home on a RBI single from Hadden, a Kulcher sacrifice fly and an RBI double from Sharnick.

Hadden, who came on in relief of Dean starter Gio Filippone (Darien, Conn.), was outstanding, tossing five innings, allowing just two hits, one unearned run while striking out seven.

Negron was the star of the game for the Hawks, going 3-for-3 with six RBI and a pair of runs scored.
