CoSIDA Release | CoSIDA All-District® Football Teams
LEICESTER, Mass. – Senior Ryan Gries (North Branford, Conn.) of the Becker College football team has been named to the 2019 Academic All-District® Football Team as voted on by College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The organization separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The senior defensive lineman currently holds a 3.45 GPA as a Criminal Justice major. He is just the fourth Hawk in the history of the Becker College Athletic Program to be recognized with a CoSIDA Academic All-District® accolade.
"Ryan is a great leader on the field and in the classroom," commented head coach Frank Forcucci. "He is a great teammate who always puts the team first. Ryan has a great work ethic and always has a positive attitude."
Gries, a transfer student-athlete from Mount Ida College, spent two years with the Becker football program. As of press time, he has 56 career tackles (27 solo, 29 assisted), three career sacks for a loss of 26 yards, five career tackles for a loss of 28 yards, and one pass breakup.
"Ryan has started on both sides of the ball this year which is a rare feat in today's game and has played multiple positions on defense," added Forcucci.
This season alone, Gries has 31 total tackles (13 solo, 17 assisted), two sacks for a loss of 21 yards, and 2.5 tackles for a loss of 22 yards with a breakup in nine games played.
On the academic side, Gries was named to the Commonwealth Coast Football All-Academic Team in 2018.
First-Team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and Second-Team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
