NASHUA, N.H. – The Daniel Webster field hockey team picked up its first win of the season with a well-played 1-0 victory over Becker in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup Sunday at Harvey Woods Field.
Sophomore Taylor St. Jean (Manchester, N.H.) knocked home a pass from senior Brandi Ritz (Burlington, N.J.) five and half minutes into the second half and the lead stood up as the Eagles improved to 1-10 overall (1-4 NECC) in their regular season home finale. Becker moved to 0-16 (0-4 NECC).
DWC controlled the bulk of the tempo throughout, outshooting the Hawks 22-8 overall (17-4 on goal) and added a 15-10 advantage in penalty corners.
Heather Strong (Palmer, Mass.) led the Eagles with eight shots while Ritz added four.
Becker saw a sterling effort from goalkeeper Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.) who made 16 saves on the afternoon.
DWC senior Teresa Moscati (Buffalo, N.Y.) picked up the shutout victory making four first half saves. It was her third career shutout.
Michelle Griczika tallied two shots on goal for the Hawks.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Elms for a NECC matchup beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Becker visits NECC foe Wheelock on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.
