Niemann scores, but Cedar Crest too much for Field Hockey

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College field hockey team lost 4-1 to visiting Cedar Crest College on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field in Leicester. The Falcons of Cedar Crest improve to 6-3 while the Hawks of Becker fall to 0-10.

Cedar Crest senior midfielder Elizabeth Lamm (Schnecksville, Pa./ Parkland) got the scoring started in the sixth minute on an unassisted score. This was followed up by sophomore midfielder Makenzie Kistler (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) in the 19th minute and freshman midfielder Annalise Unger (Burlington, VT/Rice Memorial) in the 32nd minute. The Falcons led 3-0 going into halftime.

In the 57th minute, Cedar Crest was awarded a penalty shot, and it was put in by Lamm.

The Hawks finally got on the board in the 66th minute when sophomore midfielder Lauren Niemann (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) broke free and found the back of the net, assisted by sophomore midfielder Amy Cooper (Monument, Colo. / Lewis Palmer). It was Niemann's first goal of the season. The 4-1 score held up until the clock hit zero.

Becker junior goalkeeper Alexis Barry (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) recorded 15 saves in net, while Cedar Crest sophomore goalkeeper Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, N.H./ Hollis Brookline) picked up the win with three stops. The Falcons outshot the Hawks, 32-5.

Becker is back on the field on Wednesday when they travel to Nichols College for a 4:00 p.m. matchup. Cedar Crest travels to Hood College on Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. game.
