Iacovelli nets two as Field Hockey stops Rivier, 3-2

LEICESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore forward Emily Iacovelli (Northbridge, Mass. / Blackstone Valley Technical) of the Becker field hockey team scored a pair of goals as the Hawks overcame rain and freezing temperatures to prevail 3-2 over visiting Rivier University on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field on the campus of Becker College in Leicester.

  • The Hawks would draw first blood 7:13 into the game when sophomore midfielder Kylian Kelly (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury) shovel passed to senior midfielder Amy Cooper (Monument, Colo. / Lewis Palmer) for her third goal of the season as Becker went ahead 1-0.
  • The Raiders answered with less than 17 seconds to go in the first half when senior midfielder Jaclyn Fraser (Wilmington, Mass.     / Wilmington) scored her first goal of the season, receiving the pass from freshman midfielder Carissa Letendre (Whitinsville, Mass. / Northbridge) just moments after a penalty corner. The game was tied 1-1 going into halftime.
  • The game remained knotted until, with 2:01 remaining in the third quarter, Iacovelli would score her team-leading seventh goal of the season, assisted by a redirected pass from senior forward Katherine Bernier (Dudley, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional). The Hawks led 2-1 going into the fourth quarter.
  • Unsatisfied with their one goal advantage, Becker wasted little time adding to their lead in the fourth quarter, as Iacovelli scored just 1:17 into the final stanza for her second goal of the game, this time assisted by Cooper. With the strike the Hawks soared to a 3-1 advantage.
  • Finally, with 59.7 seconds left, Rivier sophomore midfielder Lia Yohanan (Andover, N.J. / Lenape Valley Regional) attempted a comeback with a late goal, assisted by sophomore forward Maegan Sheehy (Sabattus, Maine / Oak Hill). With the score at 3-2, the Raiders attempted to tie but came up just short.


  • Becker sophomore goalkeeper Baileigh Griese (Woodstock, N.Y. / Onteora) tallied one save on the night.
  • The Hawks outshot the Raiders, 14-5.


  • Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Katie Olsen (Saugus, Mass. / Bishop Fenwick) recorded four saves for the visiting Raiders.

Becker will be back in action on Saturday when they host Maine – Farmington at 1:00 p.m. Rivier travels to Saint Joseph's College of Maine for their next contest, that coming on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
