Ribeiro leads Men's Hoops past Bard in OT opener, 72-67

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. --- The Becker College men's basketball team won 72-67 in overtime at Bard College on Friday evening at the Stevenson Athletic Center in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.

FOR THE HAWKS OF BECKER

  • Becker junior forward Mateus Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil / Colegio Pedroso e Oliveira) led the Hawks with 17 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three assists.
  • Becker junior forward Jamir Carr (Philadelphia, Penn. / Universal Audenried) scored a career-high 18 points with five assists and three rebounds. The junior shot seven of ten from the floor.
  • Becker sophomore guard Jordan Rose-Wheatley (New Bedford, Mass. / Bridgton Academy) had a breakthrough performance, scoring 12 points with four rebounds and two steals.
  • Sophomore guard Mekhi Chester (East Orange, N.J. / East Orange Campus) scored ten points with three rebounds and two steals.
  • The Hawks had forced the Raptors into 17 turnovers, enjoying a 20-4 advantage in points off turnovers.

FOR THE RAPTORS OF BARD

  • Bard freshman guard Elliot Harris (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge and Latin) led all scorers with 21 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals.
  • Bard freshman forward Stefanos Psarras (Athens, Greece / Doukas School) posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.
  • Bard freshman guard Kevin Le (Worcester, Mass. / Marianapolis Prep) added 11 points.

TURNING POINT

  • Down by one in the closing seconds of the second half, Becker tied it when Ribiero made one-of-two free throws with three seconds left, sending it into overtime. In the extra period, it was all Hawks, as Rose Wheatley made a layup to put the visitors up by seven with 2:13 remaining. Becker held on for the win.

UP NEXT
The Hawks are back on the court on Tuesday night when they travel to Western New England University for a 7:00 p.m. game against the host Bears. Bard heads to the LaFrance Hospitality Tournament hosted by UMass Dartmouth for their next contest, that coming next Friday against Trinity College at 5:00 p.m.
