Men's Ice Hockey falls to Fitchburg State

WORCESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College men's ice hockey team lost 8-3 to visiting Fitchburg State University in the finals of the 2017 Steve Hoar Memorial Tournament- Championship on Sunday at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

The Falcons of Fitchburg State (6-2-1) were led by sophomore forward Tyler Warila (Shirley, Mass. / Boston Jr. Bruins) with two goals and three assists. Freshman forward Sascha Figi (Kloten, Swtizerland / Atlanta Capitals) scored two goal with an assist, while sophomore forward Dean Zerby (Harrisburg, Penn. / Philadelphia Revolution) also scored twice. Junior forward Nick DiNicola (Wolcott, Conn. / Springfield Jr. Pics) finished with one goal and two assists, while junior forward Ricky Kramer (Barnstead, N.H. / East Coast Wizards) also scored.

The Hawks of Becker (3-7-1) were led by senior forward MacGregor Howey (Grosse Ile, Mich. / New Jersey Titans) and sophomore forward Jeffrey Schaeffer (Ambler, Pa. / Philadelphia Revolution) who each had one goal with one assist. Senior forward James Wallace (Levittown, Pa. / Philadelphia Revolution) also scored for the Hawks.

Warila was named the Tournament MVP for his efforts.

Earlier in the day, Stonehill defeated Bryn Athyn, 4-1, in the consolation game.

Becker will be back on the ice on Thursday when they play host to Nichols College in a CCC contest beginning at 7:30 p.m. Fitchburg State travels to Westfield State on Thursday for a 7:35 p.m. game.
