Leicester, Mass.- Nichols College received three first half goals from Matthew Caulfield (Fairfield, Conn.), as the Bison defeated Becker College 9-6 in men’s lacrosse action.
The Bison dominated the first half of play, out shooting Becker 14-4. Nichols scored four unanswered goals to start the game. Freshman attacker Matthew Caulfield carried Nichols with a hat trick in the first half. Caulfield got the scoring started 13:10 into the game on an assist from Ryan Pacific (Danbury, Conn.). The Bison went ahead 2-0 when Caulfield scored his second goal just 1:57 later. Caulfield completed the hat trick with 2:11 remaining in the half on another assist from Ryan Pacific. Pacific finished the first half with four assists.
Senior Aaron Fill (Ladner, BC) put the Hawks on the board on an assist from Josh Fask Worcester, Mass.). Joe Ignagni (Kingston, Mass.) scored the final goal of the half with just 55 seconds remaining, making the score 7-2 at the break.
The Two teams battled through extensive fog in the second half. Becker scored three goals in the final two minutes from Josh Fask , but Nichols held on for the victory. Steve Delahanty (Auburn, NH.) added three goals to help pace the Bison to their first win of the season.
With the win the Bison improved to 3-1 on the season. Nichols goalie Scott Gray (Annapolis, MD.) made ten saves to earn win. Becker fell to 1-3 on the season. Joe Cocoran (Toms River, NJ.) made ten saves in the loss.
