Nichols drops Men's Lacrosse on Senior Day

LEICESTER, Mass. ---- The Becker College men's lacrosse team lost 18-4 to visiting Nichols College on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field on the Becker campus in Leicester. The game represented Becker's senior day.

• Junior attacker Cole Fontana (Grafton, Mass. / Grafton) posted a hat trick with three goals and one assist.
• Freshman midfielder Hunter Ferreira (Mansfield, Mass. / Mansfield) finished with two goals, five assists and four ground balls.
• Junior attacker Christian Baldino (Woburn, Mass. / Woburn Memorial), sophomore attacker Brendan Coates (Grafton, Mass. / Grafton) and sophomore attacker Vincenzo Kulturides (Cohasset, Mass. / Cohasset) each finished with a pair of goals.
• Nichols goals were scored by senior attacker Brett Shiffer (Milford, N.H. / Bishop Guertin), senior midfielder Nate Mortimer (Hampden, Mass. / Minnechaug), senior midfielder Casey Campanale (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury), sophomore midfielder Leroy Araujo (Dighton, Mass. / Dighton-Rehoboth Reg.), freshman attacker Connor Santoni (Hartwick, Mass. / Monomoy), freshman attacker Cian Keohane (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / The Harvey School) and freshman attacker Ethan Hopey (Mount Vernon, N.H. / Souhegan).
• Junior long-stick middle Hugh O'Donnell (Charlestown, Mass. / Malden Catholic) led the defense with five ground balls.

• Becker freshman goalkeeper Daniel Whittenburg (Eastford, Conn. / Woodstock Academy) tallied 14 saves on the day.
• Sophomore attacker Matthew Guerin (East Longmeadow, Mass. / East Longmeadow) scored his fifth goal of the season with 6:38 to go in the first half, assisted by freshman attacker Cameron Sangster (Columbus, Ohio / Olentangy). Then with 4:50 to go in the third quarter, Guerin scored again on a man-up opportunity for his sixth goal of the year.
• Junior attacker Jack Schneider (Morrisville, Vt. / Peoples Academy) finished with one goal – his seventh of the year – and one assist, that coming on Guerin's second goal of the game.
• Senior long-stick middle Lewis Jaworski (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge & Latin), playing in the final home game of his career, scored his sixth goal of the year with 55 seconds left in the third quarter, assisted by Sangster.

Prior to the game, the Becker College athletics department and the men's lacrosse program recognized the outstanding senior class of this year's team as part as Senior Day. Jaworski, senior midfielder Jeffrey Schaeffer (Ambler, Pa. / Wissahickon) and junior defender Brady Neyland (Upton, Mass. / Blackstone Valley Technical) were honored by coaches, family members and fans for their many accomplishments with the Hawks, culminating in last year's trip to the NECC Finals. Each of these three young men have made incredible contributions not only on the field but for the entire Becker community as a whole. Although their playing careers may be coming to an end, they will forever be part of the Hawks family.

The Hawks are back on the field on Saturday when they travel to Mitchell College for a 1:00 p.m. contest. The Bison return to action on Thursday in their next game, that coming against Dean College at 4:00 p.m.
