CLERMONT, Fla. --- The Becker College softball team split two games on Monday at the PFX Spring Games Tournament in Clermont, Florida. The Hawks took an 8-2 win in their opener against Lasell College before a late rally fell short against the University of Wisconsin River Falls, 15-7.
First against the Lasers, freshman infielder Sarah Ellis (Berkley, Mass. / Bristol County Agricultural) reached base four times with three hits, two runs scored and a run batted in. Senior center fielder Rebecca Carkhuff (Amherst, Mass. / Amherst) also had three hits, while junior catcher Megan Klemanchuck (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) exploded for her first home run of the season, a three run blast to center that accounted for three of her five RBI on the day.
Senior pitcher Samantha Lee (Prospect, Conn. / Woodland) struck out six in seven innings for her first win of the year.
Then against the Falcons, Klemanchuck went two-for-two with two runs scored while Ellis hit her first career home run, a two-run dinger. Junior pitcher Samantha Belenchia (Ansonia, Conn. / Ansonia) drove in two runs on a base hit in the top of the first to put Becker up early.
The Hawks of Becker are now 1-3 on the season. They'll be back on the field on Tuesday when they play the University of New England at 9:00 a.m. and Bethany College of West Virginia at 11:30 a.m.
