CLERMONT, Fla. --- The Becker College softball team split their Tuesday double-header at the PFX Spring Games Tournament in Clermont, Florida, winning 6-4 over the University of New England before falling 6-4 to Bethany College of West Virginia.
First against the Nor'easters, Becker senior pitcher Samantha Lee (Prospect, Conn. / Woodland) went seven innings, striking out five. Junior catcher Megan Klemanchuck (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) drove in three of the Hawks six runs, the first off an RBI single to left in the third inning and the other two coming off a double to right in the fourth. Senior Rebecca Carkhuff (Amherst, Mass. / Amherst) and junior Vasia Murphy (Dracut, Mass. / Dracut) both also had RBI base hits.
Then facing the Bison, junior pitcher Samantha Belenchia (Ansonia, Conn. / Ansonia) struck out three over seven innings while freshman Alyssa Columb (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) had an RBI triple.
Becker is back on the field on Thursday when they play SUNY Fredonia and Franklin and Marshall.
