LEICESTER, Mass.- Freshman Adrianna Dowdy nailed the game winning jumper with 30 seconds remaining in regulation to help lift Becker College to a 53-50 win over Bay Path University in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action Wednesday night.
The win ups the Hawks record to 3-11(2-5 NECC) while the Wildcats fall to 3-11 (0-7 NECC).
The two teams exchanged the lead ten times in the game. With Bay Path clinging to a 48-44 lead late in the fourth quarter, Becker freshman Erin Gaudette (Spencer, Mass.) hit a 3-pointer to bring the Hawks within striking distance. Bay Path's Brenna Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) tried to match Gaudette with a 3-point attempt of her own, but the shot fell short as the Hawks raced the other way.
Freshman Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass.) fed classmate Tanaisha Espino (Southbridge, Mass.) for a jumper to give the Hawks a 49-48 lead. The score remained the same until Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) gave the Wildcats the 50-49 advantage with a jumper. After Becker called a timeout with 43 seconds left in regulation, freshman Katey Anderson (Beachwood, N.J.) connected with Adrianna Dowdy (East Haven, Conn.) for what proved to be the game winning shot.
Adrianna Dowdy led the Hawks with14 points, finishing a rebound shy of a double-double. Ciara McKissick pulled down a game-high 17 boards along with 11 points to earn a double-double. Tanaisha Espino took advantage of her first collegiate start as she scored 12 points. Erin Gaudette chipped in with eight points and seven boards.
Bay Path junior Dallas Jackson (Springfield, Mass.) led all scorers with 21 points. Jackson also gathered a team-best 15 rebounds to earn a double-double. Samantha Drapinski (Malden, Mass.) also registered a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. Brenna Roy finished with 11 points while Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) collected 13 rebounds and five assists.
