HOLYOKE, Mass. – Freshman guard Erin Gaudette (Spencer, Mass.) had 11 points in the fourth quarter as she helped Becker pull away from the host Bay Path Wildcats and earn the 68-59 result in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss Bay Path falls to 4-19 (1-15 NECC), while Becker improves to 7-16 (6-10 NECC).
Junior forward Dallas Jackson (Springfield, Mass.) picked up a double-double for the hosts recording a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) and junior Brenna Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) also scored double figures with 13 and 14 respectively.
For the visitors, it was freshman Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass.) who had a dominating performance with a 25-point, 15-rebound game. Both totals were game-highs.
The Wildcats jumped ahead early grabbing a 13-4 lead halfway through the first quarter, but Becker would battle back tying the game with nine unanswered points. The Hawks got their first lead of the game on the next possession on a Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.) layup.
The first half remained close featuring three ties and four lead changes, but Becker went into halftime with the tiny 29-28 lead. After a very close third quarter, the score was tied at 42.
The guests started to assert themselves with seven minutes left in the game scoring eight unanswered points, including a pair of threes from Gaudette. Becker opened up its biggest lead of the game, 11, with just over two minutes left as Adrianna Dowdy (East Haven, Conn.) made a layup.
Both teams return to the court on Thursday for more NECC action. Bay Path will visit Lesley, while Becker returns home to host Daniel Webster. Both games are set to tip off at 8 p.m.
