Women's Basketball escapes Elms with OT win, 76-69

CHICOPEE, Mass. --- The Becker College women's basketball team prevailed 76-69 in overtime at Elms College on Saturday afternoon. It was the New England Collegiate Conference opener for both teams.

Junior forward Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) led the Hawks of Becker (3-3 / 1-0 NECC) with 18 points, five rebounds and three steals. Junior forward Adrianna Dowdy (East Haven, Conn. / Hill Regional Career) posted a double-double with 16 points and ten boards, shooting five-of-nine from the floor. Sophomore guard Mariah Triplett (Coral Springs, Fla. / Piper) came off the bench to score ten points with a career-high five steals, while freshman guard Jazlyn Contreras (Pawtucket, R.I. / St. Mary Academy Bay View) finished with eight points, six rebounds and two steals. Sophomore guard Cassidy Harrison (Foxborough, Mass. / Foxborough) finished with eight points. The Becker defense collectively forced Elms into 36 turnovers.

The Blazers of Elms (1-5 / 0-1 NECC) were led by junior forward Niah Pantry (New Haven, Conn. / Career) with 19 points and 12 rebounds, requiring just nine shots. Sophomore guard Molly Moulton (North Adams, Mass. / Drury) scored 14 points, while senior guard Mackenzie LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee Comprehensive) with ten points and five assists, while freshman guard Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, Conn. / Enfield) scored ten points with seven rebounds and five assists. Collectively, the Blazers outrebounded the Hawks, 48-31.

Down by as much as 13 in the third quarter, the Hawks scored 14 straight points to open the fourth, taking a 55-53 lead off a McKissick layup with 5:16 left in regulation. Becker appeared to have the game in hand late, but missed free throws down the stretch allowed Elms to tie it up with one second left on a layup from Moulton, sending the game into overtime tied 66-66.

The extra period was all Hawks as Becker shot six of eight from the line, with Dowdy leading the way with five points. Five turnovers and one-of-six shooting from the floor did in the Blazers.

Becker is back on the court on Tuesday when they travel to Bay Path for an 8:00 p.m. game. Elms travels to Wheelock on Wednesday for an 8:30 p.m. game.
