MALBOROUGH, Mass. – Freshman forward Gina Beth Manganiello (Peabody, Mass.) posted her second hat trick in as many nights to lead the Becker College women's ice hockey team to a 10-1 win over Daniel Webster College on Saturday at the New England Sports Center. With a pair of consecutive wins the Hawks improve to 5-19 overall and 5-9 in Colonial Hockey Conference play, while the Eagles finish the 2015-2016 campaign at 0-18 (0-14 CHC).
Six different Hawks were able to find the back of the net. Manganiello finished with three goals and two assists while freshman Michaela Martin (Sheldon, Vt.) tallied two goals and two assists. Freshman Bailey Coons (Casper, Wyo.) added two goals and an assist in the win. The BC offense has scored 23 goals over the last two games.
Martin and Coons opened the scoring for the Hawks and when Brittany Aiello (Franklin Park, Ill.) tipped the twine Becker held a 3-0 lead just 6:26 into the first period. Gina Beth Manganiello potted a pair three minutes apart and defenseman Elysabeth Jefferies (Lisbon Falls, Maine) rounded out the scoring with a power-play goal at 17:55 to push the Hawks' advantage to 6-0 at the end of one frame.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the second period to cut the deficit to 6-1. Freshman Stephanie Evans (Washington, Iowa) scored her fourth goal of the season for Daniel Webster at the 7:29 mark; however, Ann Marie Manganiello (Peabody, Mass.) added her fourth goal minutes later and Martin would score the Hawks third short-handed tally of the season to give Becker a 8-1 advantage after 40 minutes.
Becker added a pair of goals in the third for the 10-1 final.
Hawks netminder Julia Johnson (Littleton, Colo.) turned back 11 shots for her first collegiate victory while her counterpart Madison Wood posted 22 saves in the loss.
The Hawks await the conference announcement for post season play in the CHC inaugural playoffs.
