MARLBORO, Mass. --- The Becker College women's ice hockey team lost 2-0 for the second straight night to visiting Stevenson University on Saturday evening at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro. The Ice Hawks of Becker are now 1-3 and 0-2 in the Colonial Hockey Conference while the Mustangs of Stevenson improve to 3-1 and 2-0 against CHC opponents.
In a performance mirroring Friday night's game, Becker and Stevenson entered the third period still scoreless at 0-0. Once again, it was Stevenson junior forward Chelsea Blackburn (Westland, Mich. / Team Detroit) who broke the stalemate, as the conference's reigning MVP scored an unassisted short-handed goal with just under six minutes to go in the game. The Mustangs got an insurance goal with sophomore forward Maddy Ricci (Wilmington, Mass. / Boston Shamrocks) scoring an empty netter with 57 seconds to go.
Becker sophomore goalkeeper Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo. / Dallas Stars Elite) led the Hawks with 42 saves while Stevenson freshman goalie Annie Smyth-Hammond (Marstons Mills, Mass. / North Shore Vipers) earned the shutout with 22. Shots were 44-22 in favor of the visitors.
Coming up next for the Ice Hawks of Becker, the team travels to Endicott College next Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. game. The Mustangs of Stevenson travel to Johnson and Wales on Friday for a 5:55 p.m. game.
