MARLBORO, Mass. --- The Becker College women's ice hockey team defeated visiting Johnson & Wales University, 2-0, on Friday night at the New England Sports Complex in Marlboro, Massachusetts. It was the first Colonial Hockey Conference win of the year for the Ice Hawks of Becker who run their record to 2-5 overall. The Wildcats of Johnson & Wales fall to 2-4.
After a scoreless first period, the Ice Hawks exploded in the second. Freshman forward Brianna Luciani (Bellingham, Mass. / Walpole Express) scored 8:35 in on a power play for her third career goal, assisted by sophomore forward Brittany Aiello (Franklin Park, Ill. / Team Illinois) and sophomore defenseman Hannah Elmer (Chicopee, Mass. / Connecticut Polar Bears). Eight minutes later, sophomore forward Bailey Coons (Casper, Wyo. / Team Wyoming) found the back of the net on her second goal of the season, assisted by freshman defenseman Megan Silta (Kenai, Alaska / Boston Bandits). The 2-0 advantage would hold up for the final score.
Becker sophomore goalkeeper Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo. / Dallas Stars Elite) earned the win and the shutout with 30 saves in net. Johnson & Wales junior goalie Kami Weiner (Elk Grove Village, Ill. / Chicago Fury) finished the night with 15 stops. The Wildcats outshot the Ice Hawks, 30-17.
Becker is back on the ice tomorrow when they play Johnson & Wales once again, this time on the road at 7:00 p.m.
