Gee scores twice as Women's Ice Hockey defeats Nichols, 4-1

MARLBORO, Mass. --- The Becker College women's ice hockey team won 4-1 against visiting Nichols College on Saturday night at New England Sports Center in Marlboro. The Ice Hawks of Becker improve their record to 3-6-1 while the Bison of Nichols drop to 0-9-1.


After a scoreless first period, Becker freshman forward Brianna Luciani (Bellingham, Mass. / Walpole Express) put the Ice Hawks on the board 2:16 into the second with her fourth goal of the year, assisted by sophomore defenseman Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine / Kents Hill School) and sophomore forward Anastasia Thompson (Riverside, Calif. / Anaheim Lady Ducks). Four and a half minutes later, sophomore forward Claudia Gee (Randolph, Vt. / Vermont Shamrocks) scored her first goal of the season for Becker, assisted by Thompson.


On a power play 9:09 into the third, Becker freshman defenseman Samantha Talmadge (Hamden, Conn. / Hamden High School) added a third goal for the Ice Hawks, assisted by

sophomore forward Michaela Martin (Sheldon, Vt. / Vermont Shamrocks).


At 13:41, Becker lost the shutout when Nichols junior forward Laura Christie (Hudson, Mass. / Minutemen Lady Flames (NEGHL)) found the back of the net for her second goal of the season, leaving the score at 3-1.


Forced to pull their goalie, Gee scored her second goal of the game on an empty netter with six seconds left.


Becker sophomore goalkeeper Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo. / Dallas Stars Elite) recorded 31 saves in the win, while Nichols junior goalie Lindsay O'Connell (Danvers, Mass. / Tilton School) had 28 stops in the loss. Shots were equal for the Ice Hawks and the Bison at 32.


The Ice Hawks of Becker are back on the ice on Tuesday when they host the University of New England at 8:10 p.m. Nichols travels to Endicott next Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
