RUTLAND, Vt. –In the opener of the 2017-2018 season, the Becker College women's hockey team fell to Castleton University 7-2 in non-conference action Friday afternoon at Spartan Arena.
The Spartans of Castleton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period. Four different Spartans found the back of the net to put the Hawks in an early hole.
After Maeghan Vasile gave Castleton a 5-0 lead, 3:02 into the second period, Lisa Kilroy added a power-play goal to make the score 6-0 at the second intermission.
Nicolle Trivino extended the Spartan lead to 7-0 with another power-play goal, 2:59 into the final period.
Becker finally got on the board 5:12 into the third when Claudia Gee (Randolph, Vt.) netted a power-play goal, with assists from Michaela Martin (Sheldon, Vt.) and Rachel Pitcher (Grand Isle, Vt.). Martin garnered her second point of the evening after being setup by Elysabeth Jefferies (Lisbon Falls, Maine) and Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine).
Becker returns to action tomorrow, October 28th when they host Franklin Pierce University in the home opener of the new Fidelity Worcester Ice Center at 7:00 p.m.
