WORCESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's ice hockey team lost 2-1 to visiting Chatham University on Sunday at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.
Chatham got on the board first nearly six minutes into the first period, as junior forward Kirajean Frost (Harvard, Mass./Boston Shamrocks) found the back of the net off assists from first-year forward Madison Black (Wexford, Pa./Pens Elite) and senior defender Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn./Minnesota Blades) to give the Cougars the early 1-0 advantage.
Later in the first, Chatham sophomore forward Holly Ackerman (East Rockaway, N.Y./Brewster Academy) notched a goal at 12:36 off another assist from Petersen to hand Chatham a 2-0 cushion.
Late in the third, Becker freshman defender Cameron Payne (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. / Los Osos) scored unassisted to pull the Hawks to within one, but that was as close as Becker could get.
Becker junior goalie Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo. / Dallas Stars Elite) finished with 54 saves in net, while Chatham senior netminder Sydney Isbell (Thunder Bay, Ont./Thunder Bay Queens) earned the victory, making 18 stops in between the pipes. Chatham outshot the Hawks 57-19.
Becker is back on the ice on Friday when they host Sacred Heart University in a 7:00 p.m. game.
