WORCESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's ice hockey team lost 4-1 to visiting SUNY Canton in Colonial Hockey Conference action on Saturday night at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.
The Kangaroos of SUNY Canton (8-13-2, 4-5-1 CHC) got their first goal from freshman forward Breanna Bedborough (Brampton, ON / Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins) just 1:54 into the game, scoring off a one-timer near the left post, assisted by sophomore forward Brittany Miner (Plattsburgh, NY / Plattsburgh) and junior forward Grace Page (Hamburg, NY / Buffalo Regals). With 4:33 to go in the first period, freshman forward Alexa Parigi (Nutley, NJ / New Jersey Rockets) made it 2-0 off a rebound, assisted by Bedborough. That remained the score through the end of the first.
12:22 into the second, SUNY Canton junior forward Whitney Bernier (Newport, VT / Vermont Shamrocks) scored off a power play, assisted by junior forward Tess Adams (Calgary, AB / Banff Hockey Academy). Just over a minute later, Bernier would return the favor by passing to Adams for her fifth goal of the season off another power play, as the visitors went up 4-0.
The Hawks of Becker (4-16-3, 2-5-3 CHC) finally broke through 8:11 into the third period, as junior forward Catherine McShera (Marston Mills, Mass. / Cape Cod Storm) exploded with an unassisted breakaway for her second goal of the season, and her second in as many days.
Becker junior goalie Julia Johnson (Littleton, Colo. / Walpole Express), starting her second game between the pipes in as many nights, finished with 35 saves. SUNY Canton sophomore goalie Brooke Susac (Bowmanville, ON / Clarington Flames) recorded the near-shutout with 25 stops.
The Hawks of Becker play their final home game of the regular season next Friday when they play host to Salem State at 7:00 p.m. The Kangaroos of SUNY Canton host Johnson & Wales University on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
