Vikings Sink Women's Hockey in Regular Season Finale

Michaela Martin and the women's ice hockey team lost to Salem State on Saturday

SALEM, MASS. –  Sarah Plourde (Hooksett, N.H.) made 25 saves to pick up her first shutout of the year as Salem State defeated Becker College, 2-0 in the season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Rockett Arena. The Vikings, who swept both games against the Hawks, improve to 6-16-2 on the season and 2-9-1 in the Colonial Hockey Conference. Becker slips to 4-18-3 and 2-7-3 in conference.

Casie Curtin (Wrentham, Mass.) wristed home Salem State's first goal off a perfect feed from Jacqueline Sindoris (Charlestown, Mass.) 14:31 into the opening period. Kylie Currier (Middleton, Mass.), who also was credited with an assist on the goal, finished the season with 22 points (9g, 13a), which set a new women's season mark for scoring at Salem State.

Plourde made the lead hold up as her counterpart in net Julia Johnson (Littleton, Colo.) kept the Vikings off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game until Julia Dares (Hanover, Mass.) iced the contest with a goal with just over a minute remaining as Salem State held on for the 2-0 win.

Johnson made 35 saves in the loss, including 28 over the final two periods.
