Teixeira's Three-Goal Week Nets Her NECC Player of the Week

NECC Player of the Week, Kyra Teixeira

LEICESTER, Mass. – Hawks senior Kyra Teixeira (Old Lyme, Conn) has continued the blazing start to her season and as a result, she has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week and the Becker Athlete of the Week, for the week ending on Sept. 8.

In two games over the past week, Teixeira totaled three goals, including two game-winners, one of which came in double overtime with three minutes remaining in the game.

Last Tuesday at Fitchburg State, Teixeira scored two goals, starting the scoring in the eighth minute with a free-kick strike from 30 yards away. She added her second goal later in the game on a shot from 15 yards away, a goal that turned out to be the game-winner in a 3-1 victory.

Last Saturday, Teixeira needed just one window of opportunity to give Becker the 3-2, double-OT win. In the 107th minute, Teixeira found an area of space from 30 yards out on the left side of goal. Her game-winning strike from there curled into the far-side netting giving Becker the golden goal victory.

Teixeira has won the NECC Player of the Week on back-to-back occasions and is now up to six goals and one assist in three games played this season.

It's a three-game week for Teixeira and the Hawks, who are back in action tomorrow with a 4:00 p.m. game at Framingham State. Becker returns home for a 6:00 p.m. match on Thursday against Worcester State and finishes the week on the road with a Saturday morning match at Curry with kickoff set for 11:00 a.m.
