LEICESTER, Mass. – Bay Path College defeated Becker College 7-2 in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon. The win ups the Wildcats record to 5-2 (2-0 NECC), while the Hawks fall to 1-5 (0-2 NECC).
Becker was able to capture one of the singles matches and one of the doubles sets. Senior Shauna Buckley (Danvers, Mass.) outlasted Teanna Montoya (Edgartown, Mass.) in number four singles on a third set tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-3, 14-12. Buckley paired up with teammate Kerry Saltvick (Bakersfield Calif.) to best Montoya and Abigail Janneke (Waterbury, Conn.) in number two doubles, 8-6.
The rest of the afternoon belonged to the Wildcats. In top singles action, Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) defeated Cameron Murphy (Weymouth, Mass.) in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. In number two singles, Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.) downed Anna Pilip (New Britain, Conn.), 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) captured number three singles over Kerry Saltvick, 6-1, 6-1. In number five singles, Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lily Woodward-Logan (Berkeley, Calif.). In the sixth singles match of the day, Abigail Janneke soared past Chenylle Mercado (Tyngsborough, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0.
In top doubles play it was Watson and Morin taking the set 8-2 over Murphy and Pilip. In the final match of the day Walsh and Wood defeated to Woodward-Logan and Mercado, 8-0.
The Wildcats will try to remain perfect in New England Collegiate Conference action when they host Regis College on Saturday, September 21 at 1:00 p.m. The Hawks return to the court on Friday, September 20 when they host non-conference rival Anna Maria at 3:30 p.m.
