LEICESTER, Mass.- Becker College defeated Bay Path University 6-3 in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon. The win moves the Hawks record to 3-12 (2-6 NECC), while the Wildcats fall to 4-8 (3-5 NECC).
Bay Bath captured top doubles action when Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.) and Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) defeated Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, Mass.) and Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) 8-5. In number two singles action, Becker's Chenylle Mercado (Tyngsborough, Mass.) and Livia Smith (Worcester, Mass.) held off Yismel Rosario (Methuen, Mass.) and Kim Deahushuk (Hudson, N.Y.) 9-7. The Hawks took a 2-1 lead into singles play when the duo of Kerry Saltvick (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Dana Mahan (Manville, R.I.) bested Edna Aboagye (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) and Jessica Phelps (Nashua, N.H.), 8-3.
Jennifer Lord took number one singles for Becker when she downed Stephanie Morin 6-2, 7-5. In number two singles play, Bay Path's Taylor Wood fought past Becker's Jacqueline Andrade in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Number three singles proved to be the best match of the day as Livia Smith gave Becker their fourth win of the day when she used a third set tiebreaker to beat Yismel Rosario, Yismel 6-7, 10-4, 10-1. Kerry Saltvick made quick work Mannion, Katrina in number four singles,6-0, 6-2, giving the Hawks their fifth win of the match. Bay Path earned the win in number five singles when Edna Aboagye, Edna breezed past Chenylle Mercado 6-1, 6-3. Dana Mahan defeated Jessica Phelps in number six singles, 6-0, 6-1, giving Becker the 6-3 victory.
Both teams will enter the NECC Tournament which begins on Saturday, October 18.
